Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death worldwide and this is projected to remain so, according to WHO. About 17.5 million people died from cardiovascular disease in 2005, representing 30 percent of all global deaths.

Factors leading to heart diseases (google images) |
- high level blood pressure
- high cholesterol and glucose levels
- tobacco n smoking
- inadequate intake of fruit and vegetables
- obesity
- physical inactivity
Heart related disorders are not only confined to adults, but it can affect any age group. Children are also vulnerable too. About 1.35 million babies are born with congenital heart disease every year. Moreover, children may have to face the emotional consequences of seeing a loved one becoming ill with CVD.
The unhealthy lifestyles that lead to cardiovascular disease often begin in childhood and adolescence, so that prevention of heart disease must begin there. A healthy heart starts from childhood, the best time to adopt heart-healthy behaviors and reduce risks.
The risk factors can be eliminated/ prevented by adapting certain lifestyle modification techniques n switching on to a better n healthier lifestyle.
80% of premature deaths from CVD could be avoided if the four main risk factors – tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol – are controlled. Tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke kill 6 million people a year and are estimated to cause nearly 10% of CVD. ( info source- worldheartday.org)
